Wedding Guest Etiquette #10 - Receiving Line at The Reception

DO greet them appropriately

Here's the rule: Say "Congratulations" to the groom and "Best Wishes" to the bride. When you say "Congrats" it implies that someone has caught something or won a prize, and it would be improper to imply that the bride "caught" the man who married her. Saying "Good Luck" no matter how nice and pure your wishes are, will sound inappropriate for obvious reasons.

DO congratulate the family

Even if you've never met the couple's parents, seek them out to introduce yourself, thank them and tell them how much you enjoyed the wedding celebration. make you pleasantries short and sweet - no long conversation. If you can't find the words to say, just smile again and no politely.

NOTE: This one is very important if there is no receiving line at the wedding reception.
